So… What Are You Thinking?

 As he thinketh in his heart, so is he. – Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)

Finally Brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. – Philippians 4:8

 The process of tearing down strongholds and destroying arguments against the knowledge of God begins in our mind. Scriptures teach us that the way we think influences the way we live and instructs us to think upon the right things.

When Moses was instructing the Israelites concerning the law of God to told them, “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframe of your houses and on your gates” (Deut. 6:6-9).

Moses knew that if the law of God was ever before the people it would be their “food for thought,” and God knew that what people think about influences their behavior.

Most of us were not raised in an environment that only exposed us to godliness. In fact, for many of us, there was no god at all in our lives, and for those of us who were raised in a Christian home far too often the word of God was not central to our life. The result is that we have been so influenced by the way the world thinks that we have literally erected strongholds of the world-way of doing things in our minds.

How are we to tear down those strongholds? First we must realize that we have strongholds and that God has given us divine power to tear down those strongholds (2 Cor. 5:4). Then we must go to work on changing the way we have been thinking so we will change our behaviors.

I would suggest that you commit Philippians 4:8 to memory and meditate upon the ideas it says to think upon.

 Prayer: Lord, give me the grace to change my thoughts to God thoughts so I will think the way you think. In Jesus name, amen.
