Doing Life God’s Way

Daily God Walk for Monday, July 4, 2011

God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.  – 2 Timothy 2:19

When we come to Christ we are doing more than just making a statement of faith; we are literally committing our life to the principles he taught and to God’s revealed will. In writing to Timothy, Paul tells us, “The Lord knows those who are his.” And how does he know them? He knows them because, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”

God has called us to be separated from the world and that means we turn away from all that is wicked, or all that is opposed to the principles of life espoused by Jesus and that is very plain in the Scripture. Paul very clearly points this out in Galatians 5:

“The sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature… The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like… But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.:” – Galatians 5:17-23

When we do life God’s way we are influenced by the fruit of the Spirit and we leave a trail of love, joy and peace. That is the contrast of God’s way as opposed to man’s way. Man’s way is all about “what I feel is best for me,” but God’s way is about what is ultimately best for me.

For many of us giving up our way and walking in God’s way has not been easy, and we have not always been successful at it. But, because of the Spirit of Christ which lives in us, we get up when we fall and we get back on track because we are committed to doing life God’s way.

Prayer: Lord, help me to fully surrender my way to you and grant me the grace to fully embrace your way of doing life. Amen.
